CLUB 1
Obras maestras de pocas páginas: literatura europea sin desperdicio.
Comentaremos novelas breves (con menos de 150 páginas) de autores europeos fundamentales, como Kafka, Camus, Saramago, Baricco y Márai, entre otros.

Los mejores cuentos latinoamericanos.
Comentaremos relatos ejemplares de autores latinoamericanos esenciales, como Rulfo, Borges, Cortázar y García Márquez, entre muchos otros.

Claudia Albarrán
Claudia Albarrán es ensayista, crítica literaria y especialista en literatura y redacción académica y profesional. Estudió la maestría en letras en El Colegio de México y el doctorado en letras en la UNAM. Es autora de Luna menguante. Vida y obra de Inés Arredondo (2000), y coautora de varios libros, como Manual Práctico de Redacción (1997), Diccionario de Literatura Mexicana. Siglo XX (2000 y 2004), Guía Práctica de Redacción (2002) y Narradores mexicanos en la transición de medio siglo (1847-1968) (2007), entre otros. Realizó la investigación bibliográfica de la obra de Inés Arredondo (Cuentos completos y Ensayos, 2012) e hizo el prólogo y la recopilación de textos para el libro Cómo escriben los que escriben. La cocina del escritor (2011), del que también es coautora. A lo largo de su carrera ha impartido diversos talleres, cursos y conferencias sobre literatura y escritura, tanto en México como en el extranjero. Fue profesora en el Departamento Académico de Lenguas del ITAM durante 33 años (se jubiló recientemente) y fue miembro del Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI).

Shadows & Mysteries: Nineteenth-Century Classic Gothic and Horror Literature
Explore the origins and evolution of Gothic and horror literature through classic novels, novellas, and short stories by authors such as Mary Shelley, Edgar Allan Poe, Sheridan Le Fanu, Robert Louis Stevenson, Oscar Wilde, and Bram Stoker. Readings may be completed in English or Spanish translation (audiobooks are also welcome), while all presentations and discussions will be conducted in English. Complementary readings and selected video interviews with literary scholars will provide historical, cultural, and literary context throughout the course.
📍 Sessions will be held on the third Monday of every month from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

Crime & Consequence: Twentieth-Century Detective, Mystery & Noir Literature
Explore the evolution of detective, mystery, and noir fiction through classic short stories, novellas, and novels by authors such as Edgar Allan Poe, Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, Raymond Chandler, Patricia Highsmith, John le Carré, and Paul Auster. Readings may be completed in English or Spanish translation (audiobooks are also welcome), while all presentations and discussions will be conducted in English. Complementary readings and selected video interviews with literary scholars will provide historical, cultural, and literary context throughout the course.

History and Memory: Historical Fiction and True Crime
Explore how literature transforms real events into compelling narratives through historical fiction, memoir, literary nonfiction, and true crime by authors such as Josephine Tey, Robert Graves, Pat Barker, Ian McEwan, Truman Capote, Erik Larson, Susan Glaspell, and Norman Mailer. Readings may be completed in English or Spanish translation (audiobooks are also welcome), while all presentations and discussions will be conducted in English. Complementary readings and selected videos will provide historical, cultural, and literary context throughout the course.

Lilyth Ormsby
Lilyth Ormsby is a bilingual journalist and educator specializing in academic, professional, and journalistic writing. She coordinated the Centro de Aprendizaje, Redacción y Lenguas (CARLE) at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) between 2006 and 2024, helping generations of students strengthen their communication skills. She has taught writing at ITAM, the Escuela de Periodismo Carlos Septién García, and CIESAS, and previously designed public communication strategies for the Government of Mexico City. She holds a Master's degree in Political Journalism from the Escuela de Periodismo Carlos Septién García and completed postgraduate studies in text composition at the Universitat Ramon Llull in Barcelona. Passionate about literature, storytelling, and thoughtful discussion, she welcomes readers to explore classic and contemporary works through the ITAM Alumni Book Club.
